The holiday season is synonymous with bright and bold festive sweaters. They certainly have their time and place, but even during the holidays I’m always a fan sticking with the basics. These are pieces that are tried-and-true…shown to last the test of time. For today’s post I partnered with Macy’s and their Tommy Hilfiger Collection to style my favorite pieces from the collection. I’m thrilled to walk you through my selections and show you what I wore over the holiday season.
Most of the parties and family events I went to over the holidays were very informal. I didn’t have any need to wear a blazer and a tie. In fact, it would have probably been a bit out of place if I did! Lucky for me, I got to stick with what I know best—mixing and matching quality staples for a refined but casual look. My first choice was this classic denim jacket. It has a comfortable fit and made with soft denim. What really drew me to the jacket was the color of the wash—it’s a mid-rinse blue, not too light and not too dark. For me, it’s the most versatile color option for a denim jacket.
Keeping with the classic approach, I paired it with a beautiful navy blue fisherman crewneck sweater (so popular it’s almost sold out but also available in a perfect shade of grey). Since I didn’t wear a lot of layers, it’s crucial that the sweater was thick enough to keep me warm in the cold-weather (which it was!). It’s the perfect balance of being a bit festive while still keeping with faithful fashion.
I’m not a huge fan of denim on denim looks at the moment, so for the pants I went with a smart, crisp pair of custom fit chinos. The Cohiba Brown color really compliments and accentuates the shades of blue in the jacket and sweater. To polish off the outfit I added a simple, utilitarian watch by Tommy Hilfiger. It has a brown leather strap and a khaki-colored dial. And as always, a pair of clean white minimalist sneakers on my feet.
Another way to spin this classic yet stylish outfit is to pair it with navy custom fit chinos instead of tan. This creates an even simpler but still elegant pairing. Blue is one of my favorite colors to go monochromatic with. With such an understated sophistication, the details of the sweater and jacket really become enhanced. Fabric and fit play a huge role in the success of monochromatic outfits. The addition of the Riviera striped t-shirt may not be seen while wearing the sweater, but adds a bit of practicality and flexibility if it get’s too warm at holiday events. Taking off the sweater changes the look dramatically but still yields an incredibly stylish combination.
You can’t go wrong with either outfit. I actually had a bit of trouble deciding which one I prefer! Lucky for me, I had a couple parties to attend over the past couple weeks so I took them both for a spin.
Thanks so much to Macy’s for sponsoring this post and providing me with the Tommy Hilfiger merchandise. All words and styling are my own!
