Today’s post is part of my ongoing partnership with MANGO Man. All styling is my own.
I’ve been a fan of minimal design for quite some time now. When it comes to architecture, interior design, graphic design and fashion, I tend to lean on the minimalist side of things. Clean and simple—just enough to get the job done and no need to over complicate things. This mindset can be applied to fashion design as well. Let’s take a button-down shirt for example…if you’re not wearing a tie, do you really need the collar? How about all the buttons, are they all necessary for the design?
For the most part, I’m only kidding—although I think there is some truth to the way we should approach design. In this case, I’m talking specifically about band-collar shirts.
I’m not one to take a lot of fashion risks. I may take a few more than some of my close friends, but for the most part I play it safe. I enjoy wearing neutral colors without many patterns. It makes me feel confident and well put together. When band-collar shirts first starting making their comeback a few years ago, I didn’t quickly run out and buy one. I’m usually a bit hesitant to introduce new styles into my wardrobe. Last summer, I decided to give one a whirl and I’m thrilled that I took the chance.
The band-collar shirt is way more versatile then I thought it was going to be. It straddles the line between casual and formal, making it suitable for many occasions. I was immediately a fan and felt incredibly confident wearing it.
This mandarin collar shirt from MANGO Man is possible the best summer shirt I have in my arsenal. The vertical stripes are near perfect, along with its beautiful base shade of blue. The band-collar and popover design (buttoned down to the mid-front) give it just enough flair to stand out from the crowd without seeming like you’re trying to hard. The fit is relaxed which emphasizes the casual nature of the shirt and makes it easier to take on and off (due to the popover design). I’m looking forward to giving it some good wear this season!
